QUOKKA WOKKA is a single-screen arcade style platformer for the Game Boy Advance, created for GBAJAM2024. Ten screens of leaf-eating baby-throwing action for children aged 3 to 127

How to play: load the rom into your GBA emulator or console

  • Use the DPAD to move Quokka left and right.
  • Press A to jump, you can even jump through platforms!
  • Press B to throw a Quokka baby! Real Quokkas will toss their babies at predators - but in this game  your babies will stun the dangerous enemies
  • Walk into a stunned enemy to kick them high into the air - they might even stun another enemy too! When they land they'll turn into  delicious fruit
  • Try eating all the small leaves on a level to see what happens!

Quokka Wokka is my first GBA game, intentionally simple while I learnt how to develop for the machine. I wanted to create an easy to pick-up and play arcade style game in the style of Bubble Bobble, Rodland or Rainbow Islands. It's not going to be much of a challenge for most players, but playing to collect all letter bonuses on each level should be a little tricky. Let me know if you have suggestions for a longer version. More enemy types? Different attacks? Time limits?

Graphics drawn in grafx2 / aseprite. Music  written in Milkytracker

Cheat mode:

If you want to skip a level you can hold L and  press A+B. Skipping the level 10 boss will send you back to level 1

Very bubbly and quite fun! :D

Also has a je ne se quois of New Zealand Story or is it just me?

Cute, but why only 10 levels?

I didn't have time to make more gameplay mechanics or bosses, better to have slightly too few levels than too many that get boring and repetitive

do you plan to pick up on that game?
